Welcome back, Sumanth Kumar Gadde: “Go-Live Is Not Done”
We’re glad to welcome back Sumanth Kumar Gadde, PMP, with a new article that asks a question every project leader should be asking: the system launched, so why is the old way of working still alive?
In “Go-Live Is Not Done: Defining Adoption and Retirement Criteria,” Sumanth argues that deployment is not delivery. A project can launch on time and on budget while the organization keeps its shadow spreadsheets, email workarounds, and parallel processes, paying for both the old and new ways of working and getting the full benefit of neither. He breaks “done” into four outcomes (deployment, adoption, retirement, and value) and offers five practical ways to reach the real finish line, including setting retirement dates before go-live and reviewing adoption at 30, 60, and 90 days.
His closing question is worth taking back to your next steering committee: “Is this now the only way we work, and is it delivering what we promised?”
Sumanth is a technology leader with over 15 years of experience driving enterprise transformation, data modernization, and operational optimization across the public and private sectors. He holds dual Master’s degrees in Computer Technology and Management of Information Technology. A recognized speaker at the PMI Global Summit, CIO Florida, the Georgia Digital Government Summit, and the Florida Digital Government Summit, he presents on AI governance, fraud detection, data lifecycle management, and the evolving intersection of emerging technologies and project management practices.
Then in our comments answer this question:
Has a project you worked on “succeeded” on paper while people kept using the old process? What finally changed that?
